Lydia Silvestri (1929, Chiuro – 2018, Colico) was an Italian sculptor. She studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts with Marino Marini. Silvestri’s work is characterized by a constant search for form and materials.
She was included in important exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale in 1956 and 1966, the Quadriennale in Rome in 1956. Solo exhibitions were held in private galleries in Italy and abroad, among others, at the Galleria del Naviglio, Milan, 1971 and the Grosvenor Gallery, London, 1964. In 1999, ‘Ariadne and the Minotaur’ was presented as a major public project at the Giardini Pubblici in Parco Palestro, Milan. The artist has also worked with architects, for public and private commissions, including: the Church of Santa Maria Immacolata (Francavilla, Italy), the Imperial Hotel (Tokyo), the Hyatt Hotel (Singapore), the Hilton Hotel (Hong Kong), the Cathay Pacific Area Company (Hong Kong) and the Sheraton Hotel (Damascus). After being included at Fuori, La Quadriennale di Roma in 2020, her work has been presented at BAR, Torino in 2022 (solo show) and in Artissima in the Back to the Future section in 2023 (solo presentation). Recent group shows include Mimesis, Galerie Barbara Weiss, Berlin, 2023-2024 and Incontri, Deborah Schamoni, Munich, 2025. In 2026 Silvestri’s work is featured in the show “Tragicomica - L’arte italiana dal secondo Novecento a oggi” at MAXXI, Rome.
